Rottweilers : The more impressive and powerful dog in the dog family | 20 Image

Rottweilers are famous for their size and strength, but what many people don’t know is that they have a caring, affectionate side. They are also intelligent and obedient dogs who thrive on structure and consistency.

However, if you’re considering adopting or purchasing a Rottweiler, it’s best not to do it impulsively. These dogs need specialized care in order to live well in most circumstances.

The Rottweiler is a loyal and protective breed that thrives on positive attention. He is a very smart dog who gets along with children and other pets, but he can be aggressive toward other dogs – especially if he feels threatened. This is not unusual for Rottweilers because they’re pack animals who need to be the top dog.

They are large, powerful dogs that can suffer from a variety of health problems. The Rottweiler is not a dog for first-time owners.

The average Rottweiler is not always the best choice for an urban or suburban environment due to his size. These dogs need to run around and exercise, but city streets and apartments often aren’t conducive to their needs.

Although they make excellent family pets, Rottweilers are generally too dominant with children. They need an owner who’s willing to train them with a firm hand in order to make them trustworthy companions. They like structured environments; they don’t respond well to the variable schedules of life in the city.

Rottweilers are high-energy dogs that behave best when they’re given plenty of attention and outdoor exercise every day – at least a three-mile walk or jog is ideal. Rottweilers also require stimulation for their minds. If you’re looking for a dog who needs mental stimulation, you’ll be better off with a smaller dog.

Although Rottweilers love to play, they don’t do well with dogs of the opposite sex and may be injured or killed by them if allowed. Rottweilers are territorial creatures and need lots of room to roam. They are not suitable as guard dogs, either; they’re much too friendly and trusting to protect anything in the house.

The Rottweiler is one of the most intelligent breeds of dog known to man, but he prefers to see his owner most every day if he’s going to do well in an environment such as an apartment. They are a pack animal, and it is best to keep them with people they know well. Rottweilers do not like to be alone in a house.

If you’re considering purchasing a Rottweiler, find out the importance of their structure and orderliness in his life, and whether or not he has other dogs in his gene pool. These are all important things for you to know about your new pet.

The first thing every new dog owner wants to do is socialize the dog, they want to expose the puppy as soon as possible to different household members and experiences.

It is all well and good to provide your new puppy with exposure, but this exposure needs to be carefully planned and appropriately executed. There is no practical way of doing this as quickly as you want to, so patience is necessary for this process.

Several things need to happen before you can safely leave your puppy alone:  you must have a crate in which he can be confined when you are not around; you must teach him how to sit, lie down, shake hands and give “approval” signals; and you must teach him the commands “sit”, “down”, “stay” and “come”. All of these steps take time.

General Health of Rottweilers

Rottweilers are generally healthy dogs who live a long time – between 10 and 12 years on average. Unfortunately, they’re subject to several major genetic health problems, including hip dysplasia and heart disorders. The best thing you can do to keep your Rottweiler happy and healthy is to purchase him from a reputable breeder who will guarantee the dog’s health. If you purchase your dog from a shelter or other source, you must be prepared for possible health problems.

Hip dysplasia is a serious hip disorder that can cause your dog extreme pain, disability, and lameness. Rottweilers are at very high risk for hip dysplasia.

Another major health concern in Rottweilers is bloat. Bloat is an extremely painful and dangerous condition that occurs when the stomach fills with gas and then twists on itself. This can be fatal if not treated immediately, so it’s essential that you know the signs of bloat (watch for excessive salivating, restlessness, throwing up, and an enlarged belly) and take your dog to the veterinary surgeon as soon as possible if you suspect he has bloated.

In addition to these problems, some Rottweilers are prone to diabetes, epilepsy, and cancer. These dogs also have very low rates of eye problems such as cataracts and glaucoma (since blood vessels in the eyes are protected by eyelids).
