Poodles are known for being intelligent and easy-going dogs, but whether or not they’re right for your household will depend on your expectations and lifestyle.

What can I expect from a poodle puppy? If you can provide a poodle with daily exercise, mental stimulation and a consistently loving home, chances are your pup will thrive. Modern poodles are successful in conformation shows, obedience tests and agility competitions. Poodles that have been properly trained and socialized tend to get along well with children and other pets.

Poodles have been considered “men’s dogs” for many years, but because of their all-white coats, most people might assume that the breed originated as an elegant version of a purebred fox. There is little research on the breed’s history, but historians have linked poodles with Pekingese and other oriental breeds and believe that the first poodle was bred as a companion for aristocrats and royalty.

What is known about the breed’s history comes from written records, paintings and statuary. It is believed that poodles descended from water dogs of Central Asia and were bred in France, Germany and other areas of Europe.

Poodles are often described as having a gentle personality, but they can also be a bit stubborn if they aren’t trained properly. They’re great with kids , very social , obedient, energetic and intelligent . Poodles’ coats are easy to maintain and don’t need much grooming besides regular brushing or combing.

The poodle coat is considered an asset to the breed rather than a liability because it protects the dog when swimming in open waters. Poodle coats are trimmed by skilled hands and owners must make sure to prevent the dogs from chewing their fur, which can be a common problem.

Poodles that aren’t properly trained may chew on wooden items or furniture in your home. Their long double coat can create some minor shedding issues, but it only needs to be brushed or combed every few days.

Despite what many may think of when describing poodles, they are not yappy dogs by any means and don’t bark excessively.  They do tend to be a bit vocal while playing with their owner or other family members, and they are known for being extremely loyal. Other than some occasional barking and shedding.
